The Algorand Foundation, which is dedicated to developing the world’s most advanced, secure and reliable layer-1 blockchain ecosystem, has announced the opening of registration for Build-A-Bull, a virtual global hackathon with $200,000 in prize money across five tracks. The event, which is sponsored by AWS, will take place from October 18 to November 15, 2023 and is open and free to everyone.

Build-A-Bull is designed to help developers create applications that are user-friendly and scalable using the features of the Algorand blockchain. During the four-week event, participants will receive matchmaking services, tools, mentorship, and support to bring their ideas to life.

“We anticipate that Build-A-Bull will draw in a new wave of promising developers to the Algorand ecosystem,” said Ryan Terribilini, EVP of Algorand Ventures. “We are looking for high-potential, investible startups and founders to create innovative projects on the Algorand blockchain, and we are confident that the resources and exposure from participating in Build-A-Bull will help catalyze this new generation of Algorand builders.”

The five tracks include: Defi (presented by Circle), Gaming (presented by Unity), Consumer (presented by Amazon Web Services (AWS)), Interoperability (presented by Wormhole), and Impact (presented by the Algorand Foundation). The winning project from each track will receive $25,000, and they will be invited to make a pitch to investors. An additional $10,000 will be determined through a public vote on the chain, and the Grand Prize will be AWS Credits of up to $25,000. The second and third place winners of each race will receive $10,000 and $5,000 respectively, and a bonus University Prize will be awarded for a total of $5,000.

The judging panel, which includes investors and industry leaders such as QCP and DWF Ventures, will use the following criteria to evaluate the pitches: the strength and skills of the team, the design of the project and its interface, the quality of the pitch, and the viability of the market.
