Although Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining is not an ideal solution for Ethereum, it is the current reality. To maintain the health of the network, it is essential to foster decentralization, which is why the Ethereum Foundation is offering an incentive to developers or teams that launch open source Ethereum Pool software.
A reward of 100 ETH will be given for every 1% of hash power that is used by the software. The maximum reward for each pool is 8%, or 33% total. This means that, for example, 1800 ETH can be awarded to groups C, D and E, each with 7%, or 1300 ETH to group A with 25%, or 1300 ETH to group A with 25% plus group C with 5%. Along with this, a DEVgrant of $10,000 will be given when the project is completed.
The project must be easy to configure and must match the performance of existing Ethereum mining pools such as Dwarfpool and Ethermine. Interested parties can submit a two-paragraph proposal on the Reddit thread, or send a private email to grants@ethereum.org. The project will eventually be made public and discussed. So, anyone who is not afraid of public scrutiny is welcomed to join this mission.
