An Anonymous reader recently reported on Meta’s open-source Large Language Model Meta AI (LLaMA) being made available to the public in February. Now, the tech giant is getting ready to release its commercial version, giving businesses of all sizes the opportunity to benefit from AI and foster innovation in different sectors.
Meta’s LLaMA has 7, 13, and 33 billion parameters, as compared to ChatGPT’s LLM GPT-3.5, which has 175 billion parameters. OpenAI hasn’t disclosed the number of parameters GPT-4 holds, but it is believed to exceed 1 trillion. The more parameters the model has, the better it can comprehend inputs and generate the desired output.
While there are already open-source AI models on the market, Meta’s LLaMA is a commercial product, marking a great leap forward. Moreover, it is larger than most open-source LLMs, and it comes from one of the world’s leading tech companies. This competition with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google may lead to remarkable progress in the AI field. However, proprietary software such as ChatGPT has drawn criticism for its lack of transparency and security.
