Crypto exchange Binance has organized training sessions for security personnel in Ukraine. The leading coin trading platform has been involved in numerous initiatives of this kind in the past year across the globe.
Binance Educates Ukrainian Law Enforcement Agencies on Crypto
The world’s largest digital asset exchange, Binance, has provided training to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies in form of online seminars connected to cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.
A representative of the crypto trading platform briefed the participants about Binance’s anti-money laundering policy, the crypto news outlet Forklog reported. The methods developed by the exchange to detect and prevent fraud were also discussed.
Attendees included personnel from the Ukrainian Cyberpolice, the cybercrime-fighting unit of the National Police of Ukraine (NPU), the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA).
Kiril Khomyakov, Binance general manager for Ukraine and Central Europe, commented that the country is facing a range of challenges every day, including financial crimes that could affect the financial ecosystem’s stability and security. “Our goal is to join forces to prevent cybercrime and in particular the financing of terrorism,” he added.
Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies have been busy fighting crypto-related crime. In November, the Cyberpolice force targeted a fraud scheme that managed to make €200 million a year by attracting investors through call centers across Europe. The unit has backed the legalization of cryptocurrencies in the nation in the past and in March, last year, started to accept crypto donations.
The Eastern European country is a leader in crypto adoption and has been taking steps to regulate the market in collaboration with its participants. Since November, ARMA has been exchanging data with major crypto trading platforms about the ownership of wallets as part of criminal investigations.
Binance’s Investigations team has hosted and participated in more than 30 workshops on cybercrime and financial crime over the past year, the report noted. These have been attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies from various countries.
The exchange has been involved in educational projects in the region, too. In February, it reached an agreement to support Georgia in developing its crypto sector via education and crypto-focused events. In December, Binance launched a blockchain education program in Kazakhstan and offered to support Azerbaijan’s regulatory efforts.
