Crypto Bank Silvergate’s Struggles Result in Liquidation By Reuters

(Reuters) – Crypto lender Silvergate Capital (NYSE:) Corp has announced plans to shutter its business and enter into voluntary liquidation, becoming the latest victim of the industry meltdown.

Silvergate, which was founded in 1988, began its foray into the crypto space in 2013. In December of last year, the bank said it was closing its mortgage warehouse division due to rising interest rates and decreasing mortgage volumes.

deposits from digital asset customers declined

to $3.8 billion at the end of Dec. 31, 2022,

compared with $11.9 billion at Sept. 30, 2022
