Data Lake Enables Secure Blockchain-Based Medical Data Consents – Press Release

Published:

PRESS RELEASE. December 2, Warsaw – Poland: Data Lake is allowing researchers to get consents from patient data collected by means of blockchain technology. The company is an EU-funded startup, which looks to address the two main problems in medical sciences: bias in data set and access to medical information.

In many parts of the world, researchers don’t have easy, high-quality access to medical data. Patient Privacy and donor consent are also critical issues. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee both.

The Data Lake System seeks to rectify this by launching an international consent-based medical data donation platform. It utilizes state-of-the-art anonymization and distributed ledger technology to make it possible for individuals to share their medical data securely with researchers and scientists. For researchers to have a legal guarantee about the source of data, they need to be able to know with absolute certainty that the data they use is from patients who consented. During its prelaunch phase, the company received more than 20 LOIs for consent-based medical data requests.

Going beyond data altruism, Data Lake is launching a tokenized ecosystem to incentivize all participants (donors included) and align the interests of all stakeholders, rather than favoring one group. People can now monetize data they have previously been unable to access. They are launching LAKE token December 7th.

Data Lake is already collecting multiple consents in collaboration with The Polish Foundation Donate Your Data (Podaruj Dane). The Foundation provides materials for patients and healthcare facilities, as well as training for educators. It also spends time in hospitals talking with patients about data donation, privacy and how they can help save lives by contributing to medical research. It is a common practice for patients to give their anonymized data to researchers. Their oldest donor is almost ninety-years old.

Data Lake recently won the Ernst & Young Startup Academy Award and has attracted investments from a broad range of investors, including OrangeDAO and YCombinator founders.

Next year, Data Lake plans to expand its network across Europe with the aim of establishing an international standard for secure and private exchange of medical data.

About Data lake:
