Such news sparked concerns amongst Bitcoiners, as Hal Finney’s account was at risk of being taken down. It appears that Finney’s wife, Fran Finney, has taken over control of her late-husband’s Twitter account in order to protect it from Elon Musk’s purge.

On December 16, 2022, Bitcoin supporter Jameson Lopp noted that Hal Finney’s Twitter account, @halfin, had recently become active. “ALERT,” Lopp said. “Someone has taken control of Hal’s Twitter account. Consider that we do not know the intentions of the new owner; they could be compromised.” Lopp’s reply to the @halfin account revealed the reason why Finney’s account had been activated once more.
