Zodia Markets, a digital asset exchange backed by Standard Chartered, has been registered as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) by Ireland’s Central Bank. This follows similar registrations by the Abu Dhabi Global Markets (ADGM) and the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – in September 2023 and July 2022 respectively.
Michael Walsh, CEO of Zodia Markets Ireland, commented that this “VASP registration is an exciting development for Zodia Markets, and we’re delighted to be part of the burgeoning Irish digital assets ecosystem”. The registration will enable the company to offer their services in Europe, including crypto exchange and OTC trading, as well as prepare for the upcoming implementation of the EU’s Markets in CryptoAssets Regulation (MiCA).
Ireland continues to be a popular destination for crypto companies, attracted by the supportive regulatory environment. Coinbase has established its European hub in the country, and Kraken is also registered as an e-money provider.
