DOJ Invites Those Affected by SBF Scam to Come Forward
The United States Department Of Justice (DOJ) posted a notice on its website Friday requesting victims of the Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) scam to come forward. The former FTX executive was charged with numerous offenses related to fraud.
The DOJ wrote:
If you think you may have been a victim of fraud by Samuel Bankman-Fried, contact the Victim/Witness Coordinator at the US Attorney’s Office for assistance in determining if you are a victim. Please reach out to…
The Justice Department noted that on December 13, 2022, an eight-count indictment was unsealed charging Bankman-Fried with “defrauding FTX.com clients, FTX.com investors, and Alameda Research lenders.”

Under the law, federal prosecutors are required to notify potential victims of crimes. However, in a document filed in court on Friday, federal prosecutors in Manhattan asked US District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan for permission to use a website to notify victims rather than contacting each victim individually. Some say the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, owned by Bankman-Fried, could owe money to more than a million people.
Bankman-Fried is currently out on a $250 million bail and is staying at her parents’ house. In the meantime, the Justice Department has moved to seize Robinhood Markets (Nasdaq: HOOD) shares worth approximately $460 million that are tied to the former FTX CEO.
