Famed actor Keanu Reeves has claimed that criticizing cryptocurrencies and acknowledging their volatility is the only way to make them stronger “in terms of how you protect yourself.” The Matrix star also praised the precepts and concepts of standalone cryptocurrencies, calling them “incredible.”
Keanu Reeves speaks highly of cryptos
In an interview with a journalist for Wired published on Tuesday, Keanu Reeves, the star of The Matrix and John Wick, gave his opinion on cryptocurrencies:
The precepts and the concepts behind a distinct coin are really amazing to me. They are great tools for sharing and distributing helpful information.
“So depreciating cryptocurrency, or cryptocurrency volatility, will only make it better in terms of how it is protected,” he added without providing further detail.
The Hollywood star mentioned previously that he owned cryptocurrency. “A friend of mine gave me one a while back,” he said in December 2021, however he hadn’t done anything with it.

Reeves also explained how he became an advisor to the Futureverse Foundation, a charity founded in June last year focused on non-fungible tokens (NFTs) based on blockchain technology. In addition to supporting underrepresented artists, the foundation also stated it “seeks to help keep the metaverse widely accessible, healthy, and evolving.”
Reeves shared: “It’s something my partner, Alexandra Grant, is really interested in, so I’m following her. I helped out with the launch.” Both Reeves and Grant are advisors to the Futureverse Foundation. Reeves elaborated:
We are looking to obtain this knowledge and offer alternatives to artists who have different points of view.
Commenting on meta-platforms such as Facebook, making the metaverse a priority, Reeves said: “It’s like they’ve created new land. There’s more land for sale. It’s wealth creation and it’s opportunity.”
The Matrix star noted that NFTs were a controversial topic, and that he was skeptical of them. “They seem to be easy to produce,” he said in December 2021. He was also skeptical of Facebook’s metaverse. “Can we not have a metaverse like the one Facebook has created? The metaverse concept is much older than that,” he said.
