“NEAR Protocol and D3 Team Up to Seek .Near Domain Extension”

Published:

On February 8th, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the NEAR Foundation announced an exclusive partnership with D3 Global, a next-generation domain name company. The partnership aims to obtain the .near Top-Level Domain (TLD) during ICANN’s upcoming application window.

D3 Global is focused on developing interoperable digital identities using the Domain Name System (DNS). This will allow for native resolution across all forms of the internet, providing universal access to services and bridging the gap between the traditional internet and Web3. With this partnership, the NEAR ecosystem will be able to reach over 5.3 billion internet users worldwide.

Through these interoperable digital identities, users can use a single domain for their website, email, and wallet address, as well as for cross-platform usernames and verified credentials. This will enhance the utility of NEAR accounts and allow for seamless integration with existing internet infrastructure, making it easier for mainstream adoption. Currently, the NEAR ecosystem has over 88 million unique accounts.

Illia Polosukhin, Co-Founder of NEAR Protocol and Chief Executive Officer of the NEAR Foundation, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that the functionality of NEAR accounts will expand with Chain Abstraction. This will combine Web3 identity with existing internet infrastructure, driving mainstream adoption.

D3 Global’s Chief Executive Officer, Fred Hsu, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that for Web3 to grow, it needs to be interoperable with existing internet infrastructure. D3 is pleased to welcome NEAR on their journey to redefine digital identity and provide more utility for NEAR users and projects.

D3’s platform, which is patent-pending, will integrate traditional internet and Web3 ecosystems to deliver enhanced utility, security, and universal access for what they call “real Web3 domains.” The D3 team has over three decades of combined experience in DNS and Web3 technologies.
