A multinational investigation is ongoing in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, into large-scale financial crimes, money laundering, and breaches of international sanctions from Russia.
The probe is connected to a former deputy and the son of a former social secretary of the NDSV political parties, whose property company is related to NEXUS.
Suspicions are that the Bulgarian company may have acted in accordance with the scheme of Ruja Ignatova, aka the “Queen of Crypto” and “The Woman of the Year”, who is listed by the FBI as one of the ten most wanted people. Europol and Interpol are following her lead.
Prosecutors, agents from the National Investigation Service, and investigators have started raiding the homes of foreign agents. The Bulgarian company is said to have traded crypto-currencies worldwide.
Operations were conducted from the Bulgarian capital, where depositors were encouraged to invest in Bitcoin and other digital currencies, with high returns promised.
There are reports that the owners have been notified by the company that part of their assets, which are estimated to be worth several billion dollars, have been taken away.
The investigation into the crypto-related activities of the company in Bulgaria started when foreign services found out about suspicious transactions that were allegedly intended to bypass sanctions from the European Union, the US, Great Britain and Russia, for both citizens and companies.
