The metaverse is making waves in Japan’s job recruitment industry. According to local reports, a large-scale metaverse job fair was held on January 27, and over 2,000 students participated. The students utilized avatars to communicate and evaluate the different positions available in various booths operated by various companies.
Japan Embracing the Metaverse for Hiring
The face of job-seeking and recruitment is changing with the introduction of metaverse technology. Japan is no exception, as over 2,000 college students attended the metaverse job fair. This gave them the opportunity to employ digital representations of themselves to converse with recruiters and explore the options for each job.
The attendees were able to ask questions anonymously about the job posts inside the metaverse. This was made possible by the event’s organizers, Neo Career Co. It focused on career-related activities, as well as X’s metaverse-specific tasks.
The event was deemed by the participating companies as one of the most successful of its kind. It also showed the benefits of utilizing metaverse tools in recruitment processes. Neo Career’s Taiki Nishino noted:
The metaverse makes it possible for students to attend online conferences.
Digital Presence is Vital in the Metaverse
Though some are skeptical about using metaverse applications in events, others recognize the potential influence it could have on business. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, for example, was impressed with the success of the initiative. During a meeting with WEF President Klaus Schwab, he commented that metaverse apps create a sense of presence at the table, calling it a “game changer”.
The firm also collaborated with the WEF in building the Global Collaboration Village initiative, which seeks to create conversations throughout the year using metaverse technology.
Other institutions in Japan are also utilizing metaverse technology for establishing their digital presence. For instance, October Toda City reports revealed that metaverse tools are being used by schools to enable students to attend classes from home to tackle absenteeism. The University of Tokyo, on the other hand, announced in July that it will use metaverse tools for engineering courses and educating students about the metaverse.
