As reported by Reddit user in the r/bitcoin group, an unknown file was uncovered that could be connected to Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks and whistleblower. According to the exit script of a transaction executed on January 5, 2017 and mined at block 446,713, the mysterious 7zip file is named “Aim”.
Speculation The 7zip File Named “Aim” is the Target Connected to Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange
On the Bitcoin Blockchain, about 1000 additional entries were discovered, likely related to a 7zip file named Julianassange.Txt. The discovery was reported to the r/bitcoin Subreddit by the Reddit user “u/sprxzk34620”, who wrote a post titled “An encrypted 7zip file possibly related to Julian Assange is hidden on the Bitcoin blockchain.” The post went on to explain that the encrypted 7zip archive contained a file called “Julianassange.txt”, but attempts to decrypt the file have been unsuccessful.
The Reddit announcement sparked a heated discussion about whether or not to publish it. Adding arbitrary data to the Bitcoin Blockchain using Ordinals was a contentious topic, as some Bitcoin defenders argued that it could clog the network. “If everyone is going to post stupid JPEGs of cats on the blockchain, I can keep buying new hard drives for my node…Fuck that shit*. Keep it compact, folks,” one Redditor said.
Coincidentally, the January 5, 2017 transaction involving the 7zip file took place five days before Julian Assange recorded a video on the Bitcoin Block at the top of block 447,506. At the time, many believed that the whistleblower was using this as a way to prove that he was still alive. Despite being alive, Assange claimed that he was not properly dressed while still confined to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
“Don’t take some cryptographic proof as evidence that I’m okay,” he said. “I am not. They have kept me here for eight years. I have not been well all the time.” Assange’s asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy was revoked on April 11 of 2019, when the Embassy was raided by police. As of yet, the 7zip file remains encrypted, as no one has been able to crack it. It might not be related to Assange in any way.
