News 8 On Your Side Consumer researcher Brian Roche is bringing you the list of the biggest scams of 2022. Scammers have found a way to use obscure methods to steal your money. Cryptocurrency scams are topping the list due to the growing popularity of the digital currency. It is easy to spot a scam when you are asked for a payment in cryptocurrency. Criminals are taking advantage of ATMs found in convenience stores, gas stations, and big box retailers. Sometimes they could be referred to as utility agents, government officials or sweepstakes representatives. They will ask you to send cryptocurrency bought at these ATMs to an untraceable digital account.

Once you send the money, it is impossible to get it back. The Federal Trade Commission has warned that no one from the government, law enforcement, or even a contest promoter will ask you to pay them with cryptocurrency. If someone does, it is always a scam.

As we move closer to the end of 2022, the future of cryptocurrency is being questioned. Lawmakers in Washington are looking at possible regulations that could limit the use of this payment method.
