Shield Grant CertiK Awarded $500K CertiKShield Grant by Sui Blockchain

Sui Blockchain has awarded the blockchain security company CertiK a $500,000 bounty for discovering a potential threat to the Sui layer-1 blockchain. The vulnerability, called “HamsterWheel”, could trap nodes in an endless loop, similar to hamsters running on a wheel, and potentially paralyze the entire network.

CertiK identified the vulnerability before Sui’s mainnet launch in May 2023 and the blockchain team quickly implemented fixes to guard against any harm the attack could cause. The award of a $500,000 bounty highlights the importance of bug bounty programs and preventive security measures.

Kang Li, CertiK’s Chief Security Officer, commented that the HamsterWheel attack demonstrates the sophistication of threats to blockchain networks. Technical information about the attack will be released in the near future and, once all mitigations have been tested, a complete report will be made public.
