Important Reminders Ahead of Genesis Block Launch

Published:

The launch of the Genesis Block is a mere four hours away, and these are the last-minute tips that will help those who are preparing for the event.

  • All platforms are available for clients and the client is designed to be durable. http://ethereum-buildboard.meteor.com/

  • Please bear in mind that it will take some time (between 10 to 1000 blocks) for the network to become stable. This is a marathon and not a sprint. For safety reasons, we won’t reveal the hash of the Genesis Block until there is a strong consensus. We won’t make an announcement about the –extradata right away; however, if we did, there’s a way to do it centrally. Let the community come to a decision about this (as multiple blocks #1028201 can be developed on the testnet as it goes through a reorganization).

  • Please do not reuse keys from Olympic. If you are expecting to get something from Olympic, these rewards should not be taken for granted due to the current state of the codebases that created them. Be aware that replay attacks could be possible. If you have earned something, you can create a new key with pyethereum or cpp-ethereum-9.36+, or go-ethereum-1 and send a transaction from A to B over the testnet. You will be rewarded on the first transaction after block #1026900. Do not use B Olympic.

  • Difficulty will start at 234. This number was determined based upon what we saw on the testnet.
