Square Enix, the renowned developer of popular gaming titles such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, has recently announced a strategic investment in HyperPlay, a Web3-native game platform. The investment will help HyperPlay scale its game store, making it more accessible and user-friendly.

The news of Square Enix’s investment was shared by HyperPlay on March 19, 2024, and was met with excitement and anticipation. In a statement, HyperPlay expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it marks the beginning of an exciting journey to revolutionize gaming distribution models.

Although the exact amount of the investment was not disclosed, HyperPlay has stated that they will use the funding to expand their game store and bring new offerings to their platform. This includes adding Square Enix’s first Web3 game title, SYMBIOGENESIS, to the HyperPlay game store. SYMBIOGENESIS is an NFT-based game with 10,000 collectible artworks that add to the game’s overall experience.

The partnership with Square Enix also brings a new level of credibility and expertise to HyperPlay, as well as access to the Epic Games Store and other game storefronts. This allows for a unified hub where players can access the latest games for free.

In a press release, Square Enix General Manager of Investments, Hideaki Uehara, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that they believe HyperPlay has built an extraordinary product for improving game distribution and creating new business models that benefit game developers.

The HyperPlay game store will continue to operate as an aggregator, bringing together games from different storefronts, and providing players with a seamless gaming experience. With this strategic investment, HyperPlay is well-positioned to become a leader in the Web3 gaming industry.
