Adobe, IBM, Nvidia, Palantir, Stability, Salesforce, Scale AI, and Cohere have joined the U.S. President Joe Biden’s voluntary AI commitments, which include watermarking AI-generated content. The White House Chief of Staff, Jeff Zients, emphasized the need to leverage AI’s advantages, mitigate its risks and take rapid action.
This announcement was made by the White House on Tuesday, Sept 12, following the initial commitments unveiled in July. These commitments were endorsed by Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft, a partner of OpenAI.
The private commitments endorsed by the Biden administration are viewed as a temporary measure while discussions in Congress regarding potential AI legislation are ongoing. The White House is also developing an executive order related to AI. In June 2023, a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers introduced a bill aiming to establish an AI commission. The Biden Administration has stated its commitment to working alongside international allies to form a global framework for AI.
