The World Economic Forum has recently put out an article that examines how metaverse technology will shape up, with the most dramatic impacts being seen in the industrial space.
WEF Forecasts Industry as the First to Adopt Metaverse Tech
The World Economic Forum (WEF) anticipates that the most significant influence of metaverse technology will be in the industrial environment, where it can be put to a variety of uses and save money. In A published article on January 13, the organization predicts that the metaverse will be adopted by industries first, and not by consumers.
The article mentions and highlights two different metaverse technologies: Digital Twins and Extended Reality. Digital Twins are digital replicas of real-world items, and they are already being used by companies such as Renault to test the functionality of their products, identify potential inefficiencies in the assembly process, and prototype models. Meanwhile, Extended Reality allows designers to combine elements from the real world with digital elements to explore the interplay between them.
Renault has already implemented the industrial metaverse, with the goal of saving $330 Million by 2025.
Consumer Metaverse
The WEF believes that the industrial metaverse will be the one that generates the most innovation, although several tech giants like Amazon and Google are focusing on the consumer metaverse. The organization believes that the two can be mutually beneficial, but resources should be shifted from the consumer metaverse to the industrial one.
The article states:
We will create many technologies that can be used in the industrial metaverse to reach consumers, including advanced haptic interfaces and micro-optics.
The WEF has previously discussed the metaverse, issuing recommendations regarding security and privacy on metaverse-worlds, particularly with respect to protecting children. These recommendations will be particularly important in May 2022.
